* Used only for students with leases in certain downtown apartment buildings. Copy of lease required.
** Also includes students living in properties owned by relatives.
*** Dorm and meal costs are adjusted for extra weeks in the dorm over the normal semester length.
1 Based on $61.60/credit hour. However, as first year books are purchased only at the beginning of the first term, the additional amount is allowed as a parking differential as most first year students are not eligible for on-campus parking.
2 Based on 50.5 cents/mile (IRS approved amount) in the Detroit area. Students living outside the area receive an adjusted amount based on where they live.
Students living in downtown apartment as dorm housing receive half of the regular commuting allotment.
3 As students are required to use computers in their work, first year students are given a one-time allowance for a computer and printer. The computer equipment is of the student’s choosing. There is no formal requirement for the type of computer, but Apple-based users may encounter some compatibility issues.
Note: Budgets may be adjusted for students with disabilities to accommodate reasonable needs to attend classes. Budgets may also be adjusted for students with dependent care expenses directly related to their attendance at law school (not for job purposes). Both adjustments require documentation. Budgets are reduced for students receiving outside assistance from pre-paid tuition programs, employee benefit programs, veteran’s benefits, etc., or for those receiving outside support for living expenses (members of the clergy with housing paid for by the church or congregation;those receiving military housing; members of a religious order, who are considered not to have financial need; etc.) These are tentative budgets only; actual amounts may change.
